Has it been officially confirmed that best buy will even carry the iphone? or is it still speculation. And if they are carrying it, any work on preorders?

From engadget: "It still doesn't have integrated WiFi (Xbox said it's because a study showed the majority of their customers use Ethernet to connect -- huh?), and it won't have an integrated HD DVD drive (not that we expected otherwise)"
LOL, no wireless because microsofts market research is flawed:D
actually I would claim their research is probably spot on. There is not very many people who will buy a $400 system which should have wi-fi built in and since it doesn't will go spend another $100 for the MS antenna. That is outrageous. I for one will continue to use a cable when every thing else I have is wireless because I will not be forced into their marketing scheme.

Here is Princeton's definition of an empire.
Image (http://www.anunews.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/aa-American-empire-map-of-bases-around-world.jpg)
Kind of looks like America is an empire, doesn't it? America has a military presence all around the world. That's like Rome who had a military presence all around the then known world. At the beginning of 2000, America was so powerful and had so much money under Bill Clinton's control, that if it wanted to, they could have taken over the whole world.
America is not an empire in the sense of Rome ... They may be vocal on democracy for other nations but they are not looking to conquer other countries and take them under American rule ... America does not wish to take over the world.

switched it up again - this time some Slightly Stoopid with Angelo Moore from Fishbone. This is a shot from Slightly Stoopid's Flickr, taken at their Lundi Gras show in New Orleans at the House of Blues. Great damn show indeed it was!
Nice! I saw a Slightly Stoopid concert when they were up at one of the casinos here in Shreveport, Louisiana.

A pair of binoculars can pretty much accomplish the same thing, no?
I'd be surprised if you even needed binoculars at 60ft, I could probably track them without glasses at that distance (which I wear all the time).

A lot of you are a bunch of cheap asses. Most of you don't understand the amount of work that goes into producing these apps. They're not just PDFs that you download and flip through. You get both an interactive version and print version of the the magazine. The reason print subscriptions are so cheap is because they don't really care about print sales. You're paying them to give your information to them so they can use it for marketing purposes. Thus another reason the ipad/iphone version are more expensive is because Apple won't allow them to collect your information. Conde is currently working on a subscription model, but it also how they are going to be able to negotiate with Apple.

I do think that Apple has ditched the iPhone 3G a bit prematurely.

what would be the big differences with the current iphone?
based on the rumors i saw, the updated version will only show incremental borderline irrelevant improvements?

The transfer cable & black color = $99 ;)
j/k :D
Oh that's right I had forgotten. ;)
Actually it might be worth it to me if it would magically allow me to to stream files that weren't WMV. Then I'd buy it even if it wasn't painted black. :)

Doubtful those numbers are accurate, willing to bet it's more a marketing stunt at this point considering they could price it much higher and sell all this years units without a problem.. With potential profits like this, it's only a matter of time before GM heads down the wrong road, again. Makes no sense really.
Rattner is currently the subject of legal proceedings and despite the questionable ethics and behavior of doing so he wrote the following: At least in the early years, each Volt would cost around $40,000 to manufacture (development costs not included).
Rattner admitted in an interview with the New York Times that he didnt know the precise number, but agreed that despite the costs, on developing the Volt GM was right to do it, to silence critics whove said for many years that the company was behind the curve.
GM spokesperson Rob Peterson would of course not confirm these values, though GM has a history of getting small or no margins on small cars. Even the famous high volume Chevrolet Cavalier was known to be sold at loss. We havent released any numbers related to costs, said Peterson. The importance of the Volt is more than a single profit-and-loss statement. Indeed.
Rattner agrees the introduction of EVs are important, but doubts any automaker is in a position to profit on them in the early years. E.V.s are everybodys latest fantasy, he said. No doubt they are important and they are real, but they wont have an impact on profitability and sales for the foreseeable future.
Rattner also thinks the idea of start-ups like Tesla rising up and competing successfully with major automakers is a bit far-fetched. E.V. markets will be dominated by the existing companies, he said. They have the scaled operations and the dealer networks. The idea that a bunch of E.V. companies will come along and G.M. and Ford will go out of business is kind of crazy.gm-colt.com (http://gm-volt.com/2010/11/26/report-each-volt-costs-40000-to-build/)

The feature is part of iTunes, so I'm sure it's still there.
Well, it only worked for Shuffle, not the other iPods, so I am not sure. Something to check at the store in three weeks when they become available...

Everything burns and is flamable at the right temperature.
No. Helium, argon, xeon and other rare gases do not burn (ie be oxidised), whatever the temperature. ;)
But I guess you can play around with their nuclei instead of their electrons.

In recent history, say the last five years, has Apple ever released new products in the Holiday belt (between Thanksgiving(US of course) and Christmas)? Nothing for me comes to mind.
But I do recall that Apple has head the release of new products for MacWorld when you'd think that they just missed the boat of the holiday shopping season.
I don't remember any new hardware in November, let alone December. (Please speak up and correct me, what was the most recent Apple hardware both announced and released Nov.1 - Dec. 31)
If Apple's going to break this tradition for a video iPod, do it before Thanksgiving!

Looking at the info tab in the app, one person spamming one location has less effect than multiple people sending reports. It looks like AT&T will aggregate the data and will look for a cluster.
My question is, is it resonable to expect AT&T to try to improve service inside stores?
Hard to say. Sometimes, it's a structural design that causes the lack of service. Look up the general principles of a Faraday cage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage

New desktop to add to my mix. Made this from a picture a friend took, combined with a background I found on DeviantArt. Not the best quality, but looks ok on my 13" screen.

Hi Jim, in theory what you're wanting to do "shouldn't" pose a problem. You may have to get it done at an actual ATT store though. BestBuy uses a propitiatory system to do all of our phone transactions and account management. While the system we use does allow us the capability to do what you are wanting, the people using it will more than likely not know how to do it. Unless you go to a pretty decent store (a higher revenue band), chances are the mobile associates will not have been trained to do these things.
For example, when the 3GS first came out, they were completely unaware that I could purchase it for early upgrade for only 199 or 299, since it was the special iPhone early upgrade. They were turning away clients left and right because they only knew how to sell the iPhone to new clients. They didn't even realize they had the ability to sell someone an iPhone who was still under the 2 year contract for an extra 200 dollars, they were just turning people away.
I would suggest calling your local store and asking speak to either the BestBuy mobile manager, or whomever has the most seniority in the mobile department. If they give you a straight answer then you should be good, if not, then they haven't been properly trained and there's little they will be able to do for you.
That's what I was afraid of, but thank you nonetheless for confirming that the fears are valid -- I'm sure the store is one of the best, it was a pilot for the BB/Magnolia concept when it opened a few years ago (Sterling, VA), but I'll probably just pre-order at the Apple Store and save the coupon for something else. Thanks again for the info!

For something like OS re-installs, maybe USB drives. For everything else, downloads, probably. That seems like a logical course of action. But then again, a lot of people don't like to use logic when they make decisions.
You've never installed Final Cut Studio, I'm guessing.
