The wolf is my hero

And I hope he will be yours.
I’m having a love affair with the wolf. He is such a legendary, mysterious animal that it’s hard not to be fascinated by him.
Historically, wolves roamed throughout the lower 48 states, but centuries of misconceptions and hostility toward the species led to intense human persecution. These factors coupled with habitat loss effectively wiped out the species throughout most of the country during the twentieth century.
The grey wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the timber wolf or simply wolf, is the largest wild member of the family. It is an ice age survivor originating around 300,000 years ago. He shares a common ancestry with the domestic dog. Although certain aspects of this conclusion have been questioned, including recently the main body of evidence confirms it.
Though once abundant over much of Eurasia and North America, the gray wolf inhabits a very small portion of its former range because of widespread destruction of its territory, human encroachment of its habitat, and the resulting human-wolf encounters. Today, wolves are protected in some areas, hunted for sport in others, or may be subject to extermination as perceived threats to livestock and pets.
In many areas wolves frequently feature in the folklore and mythology of those cultures, both positively and negatively. Stories of werewolves passed down from generation to generation. In more modern times often people afflicted with lycanthropy, a disease where a fine pelt of hair covers the body, made it easy to believe even the most outrageous of these stories.
Shapeshifting has become a popular subject for fiction of all kinds. The use of it in romance fiction has increased exponentially in the past few years. Authors have written about packs who inhabit entire towns, shifting at will but keeping to their human shape in the presence of strangers. The mating of humans and shifters has again become a subject of romantic fiction, and has given rise to many successful books.
For me it’s the excitement of knowing alpha males can change in a shimmer of stars to an animal whose primary drive is to protect its own. To know that strong women can become strong mates in both wolf and human form. And to realize, through my research, how underappreciated the wolf is, how little people know about this proud animal, and how much he should be appreciated.
The wolf is my hero. I hope he will be yours.

Meet some of my wolf shifters in two new books: Animal Instinct and Driven By Hunger

Driven By Hunger
Hunger drives the wolf. Hunger for food, for domination, for sexual satisfaction, and for revenge when one of their own is harmed. So it is when Hannah Raines is kidnapped by Rogan Mueller, and insane geneticist who wants the female shifter for his bizarre experiments. Rand Molina has not only been able to satisfy his hunger with Hannah as his new mate but also taught her that there is no limit to the carnal pleasures they can enjoy. He is both frightened and enraged by Hannah’s disappearance and hungers for revenge. Derek Sawyer, alpha of their small pack, has been seeking his mate for a long time. Fate delivers her in the person of Riesa Marlowe, a psychic who can give them clues as to where Hannah is. With Riesa he feeds his sexual appetite that strengthens his ability to lead his pack on a rescue mission. Two very hot couples and a dangerous situation. Will the fire burn brighter or will they all go down in flames?

Excerpt:
Hannah stretched like a lazy cat. Or wolf! Her body ached pleasantly, a memory of the lust—and more—she and Rand had shared during a long and erotic night. Never in her life had she expected to share something this wonderful. And with a man she had wanted for so very long.
She reached beside her to find his warm, muscular body but encountered only empty space. Her eyes flew wide as she took in the place where Rand had slept beside her. Where had he gone? Then she spotted the note on his pillow.
“Good morning, little wolf
I have gone to Derek’s to meet with him and Jesse. I’ll be back shortly. Do not under any circumstances go anywhere without me. And remember, you are my mate. My life. I will keep you safe.
Rand
Meeting? With Jesse? Then she remembered that one of the activities of the protection agency Rand and Derek had formed was to assist the sheriff with specific cases. As shapeshifters they could often go where humans could not. Additionally, their acute senses could track even the most elusive criminal. Jesse had worked that out and they’d gotten a number of referrals because of it. Now they were obviously going to ask Jesse to help him with this…problem. She hoped they could find the man before he decided to come after her. That was the one fear they all shared—that humans would capture them and try to reproduce their breed. Or other things more terrible to contemplate.
Hannah read the message twice more before she pressed it to her nose, inhaling the faint scent he had left on the paper. Then, clasping the paper to her breast, she rolled over to his spot and immersed herself in the scent he’d left on the sheets. Already her body was craving him again, her nipples hardening and liquid drenching her still swollen pussy. She lay there smiling, recreating every moment of the previous night.
When she caught sight of a clock beside the bed she sat upright, startled. Nine o’clock? Was that possible? Why hadn’t he wakened her. Lord! She had work to do for Alexis. Two websites due and the basics for a new brochure. She knew Rand meant to move all her things into his house, but she had no idea how long he’d be. She needed her computer and some fresh clothes. Certainly when Rand had said not to go anywhere he didn’t mean just next door to where she’d been living. Hannah had no idea how long he’d be gone, but she could be out and back before he finished his meeting.
She dressed quickly in her clothes from the night before and hurried into the kitchen. A coffee maker sat cold and silent on the counter. Hannah rummaged in cupboards until she found coffee and filters, set everything up and pressed the On button. By the time she got back, she’d have a full pot of coffee to get her through her projects.
Fishing her own house key from her purse, she slipped out the back door, leaving it unlocked. Surely no one would break in during the short time she’d be away. She was so lost in thought about her new situation that her wolf senses were dormant and she didn’t notice the two men move silently up behind her until hands touched her. She opened her mouth to scream but one of the men slapped a piece of duct tape over it. And no matter how she struggled she couldn’t free herself from the iron grip holding her as they dragged into the trees.
“Cover her,” one of the men said in a guttural tone.
“But I wanted to see more of her,” the other one laughed softly. “Let’s hope the boss lets us have our fun before he begins work on her.”
At the words a cold fist closed around Hannah’s heart. Fun? Work on her? But then in seconds a needle pricked her arm. A large cloth bag enveloped her body as she faded into unconsciousness.

Animal Instinct
When Ann Marie Knight literally fell into Drew Noland’s solitary existence as an injured white wolf, little did he expect her to shift into a woman whose scent called to him-mate! Already gathering to track a vicious group of men who maimed and hunted animals illegally, they turned their attention to rescuing her brother. But could Drew calm Ann Marie’s fears and convince her they were meant to mate for life?

Excecrpt:
The first thing Drew realized when he awoke was that he was stiff and sore and definitely not in his bed. The second thing, when he finally pried his eyes open, was that was a naked blonde was cur led up on the rug beside the couch. A thick mass of lustrous curls tumbled over her shoulders and her skin, where the blanket had been dislodged, was as smooth and fine as alabaster. A thin red line across one shoulder was the only evidence of the bullet that had hit her.
A shifter. He’d known it in his gut but here was his proof. How and why did a shifter end up in Texas and more importantly, here on his property? He sat up very quietly, staring at her. His original intuition had been right. She was a shifter, like him. But where had she come from and what was she doing here?
Trying to be as silent as possible he rolled off the couch and crouched beside her. A flash of heat went straight to his groin, his cock hardening and thickening. Unable to help himself, he drew back the blanket, exposing her entire body. Now the heat coalesced into a major hard-on that threatened to break the zipper of his jeans. He couldn’t remember the last time a female has aroused him so quickly.
Of course, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d had sex with someone who really turned him on, either. He had become far more of a loner than he’d ever expected.
Tentatively he reached out a finger and traced the thin red line. The blonde trembled in her sleep but didn’t waken. Emboldened he drew a line across the swell of her breasts, then lightly touched each rosy nipple. They peaked immediately at the contact and a tiny moan echoed in her throat. Brushing the tousle of curls away from her face, Drew leaned forward impulsively and placed a soft kiss on her full lips, running the tip of his tongue along the closed seam. She had a clean taste, like the forest after a rain or the lake when a breeze had ruffled its surface.
He licked her lips again, wondering how long it would take for her to realize something was happening. He didn’t have long to wait. The moment he tried to slip his tongue between her lips, she awoke with a start and bolted upright, jamming her head against his nose.
“Jesus!” He reared back, pain shooting through his head and clamped one hand over his face.
The blonde yanked the blanket around her and scrambled away from him, a ferocious look in her eyes.
“What kind of pervert are you, anyway?” she demanded. “Do you always take women home, strip them naked and fondle them while they’re asleep?”
He swallowed a grin. “Only when they start out as a wolf and then shift,” he told her.
