Georgia Continues to Load Up On Wide Receivers

The Georgia Bulldogs will spend the better part of the 2010 season in "hope" mode—as in, they are hoping that none of their six scholarship wide receivers are forced to miss any significant time due to injury or misbehavior.

The Bulldogs are frighteningly thin at wide receiver this year—even thinner when you consider the relative lack of production from the No. 2 spot in 2009. It's an area that is of minor concern to the fans and it has often sparked intelligent debate among those in the Bulldog Nation as to who will fill the shoes that Mohammed Massaquoi left behind in 2008.

That said, the team has been recruiting the position with ferocity this off-season and, as of June 4th, Georgia received it's third wide receiver commitment for 2011. Zach Witchett, another talented in-state product, has made it known that he will be signing with the Bulldogs in 2011—joining Chris Conley and Justin Scott-Wesley on the early-commit train.

Witchett is a 6'0", 186 pound, blend of speed (he runs a 4.43 forty) and athleticism. He adjusts to the ball well in the air and has good long speed for the deep ball. He will definitely bring a nice batch of skills to Georgia—including the ability to play defensive back (although that seems unlikely at the moment).

Georgia isn't going to sign too many more receivers for 2011 (they should cap out at four or five), but two guys do remain a huge possibility—Damian Swann (who has Georgia in his top 5) and Charone Peake (who many feel will either choose either Georgia or Clemson)—both have connections to current Georgia pledges.

Swann has been lobbied by Witchett and Peake has been in contact with Georgia QB commit, Christian LeMay.

For now, the program can relish in receiving its tenth commitment of the year.
