Being a fan of Terrence Malick movies is a bit like standing for a bus - you wait ages for one and then three come along at once (well, perhaps not quite 'at once', but when there's a twenty year gap between Days of Heaven and The Thin Red Line, three films in the space of seven years is pretty damn close). 2005 saw the arrival of the historical adventure The New World and in 2008 he wrapped production on The Tree of Life, a family drama set for release in 2011 (Malick has also finished shooting his highly secretive and as-yet-untitled sixth feature starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz, which is expected to hit some time in 2012). The Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain, Kari Matchett, Joanna Going, Jackson Hurst and Fiona Shaw, and centres on a Texan boy's journey into a disillusioned adulthood and his search for meaning in life. The Tree of Life is set for a US release on May 27th 2011 with a UK date yet to be announced.
