Tom Hooper's Oscar-nominated historical drama The King's Speech was dethroned at the UK box office this past weekend as Disney's Tangled took the crown with an opening weekend of £5.1m. While Disney haven't had the best track record with their non-Pixar CG-animations, the $260m(!) budgeted Tangled - a retelling of the fairytale Rapunzel - more than doubled the opening of its last animated release The Princess and the Frog and looks good value for its money with global receipts of $421 to date. Meanwhile the rather more modestly budgeted King's Speech (£10m) is also enjoying a healthy run and pushes its four-week gross just shy of £25m despite slipping to second place.
Along with Tangled there are three other new entries this week, the highest of which is the Jason Statham actioner The Mechanic. Pulling in £921k, The Mechanic places fourth behind Black Swan, with fellow newcomers Hereafter and How Do You Know settling for seventh and tenth. Vince Vaughn comedy The Dilemma slips one spot to fifth, while The Green Hornet, Gulliver's Travels and 127 Hours fall three apiece to fill out the remaining positions in sixth, eighth and ninth respectively.

David O. Russell's Micky Ward biopic The Fighter (cert. 15) swings its way into UK cinemas this Friday, squaring up against sci-fi heavyweight producer James Cameron's latest 3D project Sanctum (cert. 15). Also released are dramas Rabbit Hole (cert. 12A) and A Little Bit of Heaven (cert. 12A), while if you fancy something with a British flavour there's also director Rowan Joffe's Brighton Rock (cert. 15), which is based on the Graham Greene novel of the same name and features a strong cast of homegrown talent including Andy Serkis, Helen Mirren, John Hurt, Sam Riley (Control) and Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go).
