I have had no luck today getting two batteries replaced. I enter their serial numbers and it tells me they are not valid serials, even though they fall within the range. When I call the support number and hit 5, i just get a busy tone and it hangs up on me.

You're screwing up, intel. We don't want 300 trillion transistors on a 1 nm die. We want longer battery life. Idiots.

am i the only one here that really thinks this is just a pathetic to even think apple is coming out with a phone? Personally, I can not see apple coming out with one. Honestly, I'm quite sick of hearing all of these posts about potential iPhone stuff. i just dont believe it would happen.

From what we're read so far, especially the quote that went something like: "it's not like we're sitting around not doing anything." or however it went, and everybody read this:

It's not a question of if, it's a question of WHEN

I just find it rather funny that so many people are already giving it the name iPhone. I think that is the worst name ever, and a little too predictable. Even the false "iChat Mobile" was a far superior name.

I remember when I was a kid and I asked my father for a toy and he came with a different one... I was the saddest kid on earth.

I believe that who ever asked for an iPad and got a Motorola would feel the same.

    (Dad, I love you)

Not surprised. Best buy has always been a super shady retailer with subpar employees. Sadly its the easiest place to buy electronics other than ordering online.

The trick with Apple is to innovate in aspects that no one else is considering. Example: "we need smart covers because protecting your tablet is a must and should be easy." Thus far this is an APPLE ONLY thing and it works like a charm.

There are other things they could do.

If Apple really wants to completely stand out (even with the crippled aspect that they don't support Flash) they really need to push for Thunderbolt on iOS devices.

    It would sync data faster.

    It would charge devices faster.

I know there is a lot of groundwork to be done first. All Apple computers should have the Thunderbolt I/O in order for the iOS devices to even consider Thunderbolt.

Time is not a luxury Apple has right now. They need to move faster than ever.

OK, let's move onto Obama's grades. When Obama caves and releases those, citing more important issues we need to deal with, the press will then go after his professors and classmates. What else will the wingnuts ask for?

I wonder if this has more to do with reward zone coupons and 18 month no interest financing.
Have you ever seen an RZ coupon that didn't say "excludes Apple products" along with Bose and a number of other carveouts. Financing may be a different issue.

    From the Apple website...

Backup Disk: Change the drive or volume youre backing up to. Or back up to a Mac OS X server computer.

    Ouch ....

i just want a cell phone that works.

all these phones today(by all these phones i mean the motorolas i have had, so mayby motorola's jsut suck) have this ridiculous amount of latency when you are navigating the menus. cause they have to have all this fancy crap flyin around. its like phones are using the same technology from 5 years ago but they are just piling these features into them so they dog down. overall phones today seem to suck just a bit. my nokia 8260 was the best phone i ever had and it was monochrome with no camera or video or stupid crap like that...

plus it seems that my phones ability to get reception when inside a building has gotten worse over time too. i used to get good reception inside my work, but now i don't. and its the same building.

so all in all, just give me a phone that works and functions well and i'll be happy.

does anyone else thing launchpad is the worst idea yet?

I agree Launchpad is pretty weak if you paradigm is a traditional laptop or desktop computer. Now think touchscreen Imac. Makes sense and so does the new IPad style Mail. Won't be long.

This is one reason why Microsoft Office requires more and more RAM and CPU every time a new version is released.
Microsoft Office 2007 (Windows) and 2011 (Mac) are not slow.
They may be slow in your super ber Mac from which uses the super ber Core 2 Duo, but it's certainly not in my sister's Core i3 notebook.

Your machine is outdated. I hope you're not using it as a reference to judge Microsoft Office performance.

    Um...you just proved his point.

Plenty of people ran NT on their desktops.

Admission of your mistakes is a good step in becoming a better person.

    Key word being DESKTOPS.
MP machines were server based long before they were included in desktops. I'd like to see where people had dual Xeon based DESKTOPS 'cause I've never seen it. It's not impossible but it's also not a good cost-based answer either. :p

The server/desktop division with Windows - as with OS X - is one of marketing, not software. Windows "Workstation" and Windows "Server" use the same codebase.

    I never said otherwise.
The hardware they run on is where it differentiates.
Most people/corporations run server-based OS on servers and workstation-based OS on desktops (or "workstations" in the business world). It's not impossible to run a server OS on a desktop or a workstation OS on a server but it is incredibly stupid.

Well, if you can't find evidence of Windows running on well on machine with >2 processors, or of the significant low-level changes Microsoft have made to ensure it does, you aren't looking very hard.

Bad dual core support? Citations please. I think this is a case where a Mac fan is simply speaking out of ignorance of their "enemy" platform.

I erronously bundled in "dual core" with "sketchy 64-bit support". Don't know why. From what I hear, 64-bit support in XP64 is sketchy because of device driver issues (and drivers not being natively 64-bit). I don't have any true 'dual core' systems myself but my P4 3.0C HT works fine in XP Pro. I apologize for lumping in "dual core" in.

Similarly, if you're one of the "Vista is just XP with a fancy skin" crowd, you've obviously not done much research. The changes in Vista are on par with the scale of changes Apple made to NeXT to get OS X.

User Account Protection is a big change. I've seen the list of "new features" and it doesn't do anything for me. UAP is nice...it's just really late. I'm sure there's changes "under the hood" like the ones implemented in XP sp2 to prevent buffer/stack overflows, etc. and I'm sure that's what you're referring to.

I think people who say stuff like that are exhibiting a syndrome common to Mac folk who've never spent any time in the PC world -- they take negative comments they remember regarding versions of Windows or the PC experience from about 5 years back and assume they apply to today. XP, for example, really was for the most part a window-dressing of Windows 2000, but that is not the case for Vista. You see similar statements regarding "blue screens of death", overall system stability, etc, which suggest they haven't seen or used a PC since the late 90s/early 00's.

So - are you inferring that Windows 2000 or Windows XP never blue screen? Because (if you are) that's a load of crap. I've seen blue screens in both OS's. Granted it's usually tied to hardware only, but it still happens. I've had an external USB drive blue screen in XP every time I turned it on, tried on 3 XP computers. Hardware fault, no doubt. Lately my HP Laptop dvd drive has been causing XP Pro to blue screen every other time I insert a dvd-r. Again - hardware fault.

Otherwise are both OS's stable? Damn straight. But problems do occur and I hope you're not suggesting otherwise. No OS is without its flaws.

Thats great news. I was wondering if a 6 week old machine was going to be left in the dust by the new chips. Santa Rosa april 2007?

Another sad person who is worried about their machines not being top of the line :-\

Its a computer, you should expect your machine to be superceded by another model in a matter of weeks / months.

Apple are a business and not to make you feel, somehow, superior due to your computer.

If June 2011 is set, then i would expect:

    11.6"
    Sandy Bridge
    4GB RAM default
    256GB SSD max
    Thunderbolt

    13"
    Sandy Bridge
    4GB RAM default
    512GB SSD max
    Thunderbolt
    Back-lit keyboard
Ext Superdrive free (hi end model)

    Rejoice!

    The coverage and cost obviously.

Because if Apple release an iPhone 5 with LTE, it will cost more and won't be backwards compatible... right...

    Obviously not a factor.

Probably someone mentioned before, but "a tablet for professionals" named PLAYbook?

    I smell an identity crisis.

Yes, someone did mention it before and that person got told that a PLAYbook is a book of strategies, not some kind of book for kids to play with. Think professional sports, the coach has his "playbook" with him with all the different "plays" in it that he's planning to use.

It translates well to the corporate world where company strategies are made and store on this device and communicated through it.

It's mostly non-english speakers that are trying desperately to find a problem with the name that see any sort of identity crisis. Most of us understand why RIM picked the name.

Why would Apple show their Clovertown workstations after HP and not simultaneusly with HP?
Because HP is a much bigger company with much bigger sales volume and probably gets all the new processors before Apple does.

I'm willing to bet there will be a price drop and only available on the Mac App Store.

I doubt it will be available on the Mac App store. Think about how much space FCS requires.
