Georgia Bulldogs Football: 10 Things You Should Know About Idaho State

Sure, it's Idaho State and no one is under the misguided notion that this game will be anything more than a makeshift bye week for the tired and tattered Georgia Bulldogs.

However, it's become as much a habit as anything to do a "10 Things..." for every opponent that Georgia will face this season—no matter how insignificant they might seem.

That said, this will be a less in-depth analysis of their opponent as...well...there won't be too many Georgia fans who give two cents about Idaho State—post-Florida.

So, let's just get this out of the way...shall we?

1. They play in the Big Sky Conference.

The Big Sky is the I-AA conference that's also home to Montana State. The same Montana State that beat the Colorado Buffaloes in their 2006 season opener. Idaho State lost to Montana State in overtime this past weekend.

The Big Sky is 0-5 against the SEC—as a conference.

2. Coach John Zamberlin has not done a very good job.

In 2009, John Zamberlin received a two-year contract extension. His overall record at Idaho State is 6-36—that includes a 1-7 record this season.

He is, currently, on the hot seat at Idaho State as he wore out his welcome long ago. One fan of the program even suggested that the Idaho State Athletic Association return the team's new scoreboard since Zamberlin's offense has failed to utilize it very much during his tenure—ouch.

3. Their defense is awful.

Ranked a disappointing 103rd in the nation, the Bengals are giving up a generous 411 yards per game (ypg) as the opposition is scoring better than 28.0 ppg against them this season.

4. Their offense isn't that much better.

Currently, the Bengals are 113th in the nation in total offense—managing a shade under 231 ypg—and struggling to score 17 ppg.

5. Tavoy Moore is the most visible and productive part of their offense.

The junior running back accounts for 80 percent of the Bengals offense. He's as all-purpose as they come. He's at his best when returning kickoffs. He's already accumulated 700+ kick return yards—scoring twice—placing him at 17th in the nation in that category.

6. They utilize a two-quarterback system.

Both Kyle Morris and Russell Hill have seen an almost equal amount of snaps this season—neither has been all that impressive. Combined, the two have as many interceptions (11) as they do touchdowns (8).

However, the senior, Hill has more mobility.

7. A.J. Storms is their best defensive player.

The linebacker already has 99 tackles on the year (good enough for 3rd in the nation) and, coming out of high school, was quick enough to play as a defensive back (he runs a 4.4 forty). He is currently one of only two players on the Idaho State roster with NFL potential.

8. They are horrific on third down.

The Bengals have converted 29 percent of their third down attempts (30/105). They are, surprisingly, better at converting on 4th downs (55 percent).

9. The game will be televised—locally.

The game is scheduled to air at 12:30 on WSB-TV Channel 2.

10. Chris Holmesly has been another defensive bright spot.

The 5'9" defensive back has been all over the place for the Bengals this season and has an impressive stat line to show for his efforts. The feisty senior has 70 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 3 pass breakups, 5 passes defensed, and 2 quarterback hurries.

Is There Really Any Chance That Temple Beats Penn State?—The Lady's Friday Links (9/24)

The head coach at Temple University, Al Golden, has the Owls on the cusp of relevancy. After two winning seasons, their first bowl appearance since 1979 (in 2009), and a hot start (the Owls are currently 3-0), Golden has his program standing at the threshold of college football legitimacy.

After last weeks surprising win over Big East power, Connecticut, the Owls head into Saturday's match-up against Penn State with a lot of confidence—are the Owls for real? This game will surely be the one that answers that question.

Read more about the emergence of the Temple football program right here

Michigan State head coach, Mark Dantonio, is on the mend but his team will retake the field this weekend—hoping to remain undefeated.

Florida coach, Urban Meyer, will add his name to an exclusive group of head football coaches if/when he reaches the 100-win mark over the next four games. He would be the fastest coach, in more than 50 years, to reach the milestone—boy...it sure does pay to stay in-state and play those pansies, eh Urban?

The Alabama Crimson Tide are tentatively scheduling a game with the Michigan Wolverines. The match-up would take place in Dallas, TX in 2012—the Crimson Tide are really looking to expand their brand under Saban...well played.

Randall Cobb and the Kentucky Wildcats will look to get their program-defining win in The Swamp on Saturday night. Said John Clay, of KentuckySports.com, "You might expect a little more respect for a program that has been to four consecutive bowl games. You might expect a little more respect for a program that won on the road at Auburn and Georgia last year, that boasts a Randall Cobb, that competes in the SEC."—with all due respect to what the Wildcats were able to do last year, their schedule this year has been a joke. If they win at Florida, then they should join the conversation, but they are hardly worth a top 25 nod after beating a couple cupcakes and a pansy.

And speaking of Randall Cobb, he's mighty sensitive where his team is concerned. Red Lobster has lost his business for a little while after a hostess, unwittingly, dissed the Wildcats football program—you can hardly blame her, it was an honest mistake.

This writer offers a different opinion on the Reggie Bush debacle, he seems to feel an injustice was done to both Reggie Bush and USC. Says Jerry Soifer, "Where is the media outcry against the people who bribed Bush and his family, taking advantage of a 19-year-old man and a family that had very little at the time?"...uh-huh. I have a better question, where was Reggie Bush's honor code? He wasn't nine, he knew what he was doing was wrong—I hardly feel sorry for him. It's called accountability.
The cost to the Colorado Buffaloes to leave the Big 12 and become a member of the new Pac-12: a whopping $6.836 million—ouch.

Before the start of the season, a lot of people felt like the Pitt Panthers were going to be major players in the BCS this season. Well, after last night, that notion took a big hit.

The Colorado Buffaloes Lose Another Impact Player In WR Markques Simas

The Georgia Bulldogs will match up with the Colorado Buffaloes in week five of the 2010 college football season. The game is scheduled to broadcast at 4:30 on Fox Sports South so mark your calendar and set your smart phone.

Prior to now, the game was considered to be one of mild interest to me and a few others as the 2006 match-up between the two teams ended wildly in Sanford Stadium. So, this trip out west was thought, at least by me, to be one worthy of a little concern.

Well, since that time, Dan Hawkins' club has undergone a bit of a face lift on offense.

The wide receiving corps that was a major strength just lost the better half of its dynamic duo as Marques Simas, initially suspended indefinitely, was eventually released from his scholarship and has since  transferred to another school—San Diego State.

Andre Simmons, another potential talent at wide receiver, has been ruled ineligible for the year. The JUCO transfer had hoped to secure a bigger role for the Buffs this spring but, academically, was unable to perform and has, consequentially, been suspended for the season.

Toney Clemons, the transfer from Michigan, will still be of interest but the Bulldogs should have an easier time with the Buffs in the secondary with much of their talent depleted for the game.

Dan Hawkins is definitely on the hot seat this year and with Colorado expected to move to the Pac-10 after next season, there is serious doubt that Hawkins will be packing his boxes for the move with his team.

That said, the Georgia Bulldogs will still need to be wary of a team with this much adversity heading into a 'hot seat' season and on the verge of switching conferences. The pressure to perform and be proven worthy of their Pac-10 upgrade will be high and I don't expect them to give an inch.

Even so, if you are a Georgia fan, you have to be a little more confident heading out to Boulder now than before.
