This March sees the first official DVD release of Arrivederci Millwall, a hard-hitting British rarity about football hooliganism in the dark days of the early 80s, which is credited as having inspired the recent wave of football hooligan flicks such as The Football Factory (2004, dir. Nick Love), Green Street (2005, dir. Lexi Alexander) and Awaydays (2009, dir. Pat Holden). Made in 1992, Arrivederci Millwall is directed by Charles McDougall, who has since carved out a successful career directing TV shows such as Queer as Folk, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and The Office, along with the acclaimed TV movie Hillsborough (1996).
Take a look at the synopsis and check out the trailer below...
"Set in 1982, Billy Jarvis and his gang of hooligans prepare to go to Spain for the World Cup. At the same time the Task Force sets out for the Falklands. They view themselves as an unofficial task force, but behind the nationalistic fervour Billy plans his own personal revenge for the death of his brother in the Falklands conflict."
