Despite what some are posting here, I feel Apple will wait until the new year to address any new iPod/iPhone/etc.
    Why? Because they can.
Apple is one of the few companies than can afford to wait out the holiday season with their current offerings - knowing people who just bought the new iPod video redux will ALSO buy the next gen iPod video once they see how cool it is (it will definitely be more than a brighter screen and some lame additional features).

Honestly, I don't know. It just seems that in the past, Apple waited to hit us in the pocketbooks until AFTER the holiday shopping season. While MWSF seems the place for such an announcement, I'm not sure they would want to feature a new iPod video their iTV, OS 10.5, an iPhone etc. all at MWSF. Seems a lot.

The difference compared to the old one is to small. I assume that many iMac users with an iMac 2007/2008/2009/2010 don't buy a new one.

I assume you're reading the chart wrong. The new i5 is faster than the old i7, even though the i7 has hyperthreading but the i5 doesn't. That's pretty huge. It doesn't look like the new i7 has been benchmarked yet.

The processor upgrade in the new 27 inch line is just a marginal upgrade from the 27 inch core i7 2.93ghz 11,3 generation.

Based on what? Are there benchmarks out for the new i7 yet?

I do agree with you that it doesn't make sense for most people to upgrade from the previous generation, but I tend to feel that way about sequential updates in general. But this does look like it has the potential to be a nice improvement, and I think the TB ports allow the new machines to compete with the MPs in some ways they never have before.

Yes but if you enter an appointment in iCal then the system could cache the required data before you leave wifi range. Most your adhoc travel is going to be your home city right. So it could have a cache of your home city in high detail in a couple of hundred Meg right?

United Kingdom + Ireland on TomTom is 166 MB. Complete USA is 770 MB, complete Europe about 1000 MB. Maps are a lot smaller than you seem to think.

Taking a look at the pictures on iFixit, did it look like the CPU may be replaceable? That would be an interesting shift. Those brave souls could upgrade this machine albeit void the warranty. But most interesting. I like what I see.

I'm sure a .edu-discounted MacBook is going to be close in price anyway, and then there's the Mac mini, I doubt the student's Mac will usually be their first computer ever. Either one is probably a better fit.

The $900 iMac really is an institutional product, not aimed at personal users. Personally I think it'd work well as a corporate product too, if Apple could actually start selling to corporate customers.

How is that exactly? Its a MacBook with a stand and a bigger screen. How is it not for personal use?

That's uncalled for. I don't understand what the purpose is either. Why don't you explain it if you know so much.

What has me curious is why the area where the calendar names appear is blurred. Seeing the "flippy triangle" makes me think that iCal will support calendar groups. Some uses for groups that I can see are:

1 - Eliminate clutter by only showing the calendars in that group when it is selected.
2 - they can be used as a source of calendars. For instance, you might create a group called "Work" with the source being an exchange server so anyone's calendar that you have rights to see will appear under the group.
3 - Improve backups, syncing, or sharing.

This functionality exists in the current iCal

Is it really that tough for you to understand? Apple sells two phones. Those are the two most popular phones sold.

The other manufacturers ALL sell many, many models of phones. The total sales of those many phones combined equal to a number that is bigger than Apple's total sales.

I guess it is best to let it go. Too many people unwilling to compare like things (like IPhone 4 vs Nexus S or Galaxy xyz). They want to do perform some comparison of dissimilar objects because they desperately want the iPhone to be losing at something.

They throw out Android as an App platform even though they still sell container loads of phones on 1.6 that will never be upgraded to a compatible OS. They will redefine winning because they hate Apple.

It is weird, kind of creepy and getting old.

It can certainly be a secular democracy, where the Muslims, Christians (yes there are Christian Palestinians as well) and Jews live together. it doesn't necessarily have to be a Muslim state.

That would be awesome, but if muslims are the majority, i have a bad feeling about what they will turn the country into. It would likely become a muslim state, and israel would not be able to remain secular.

I have long believed that a secular, unitary state is the only right solution for Palestine. It can happen.

Yeah, because muslims have a great track record when it comes to running their own countries. Of course there are a few exceptions, but they usually have a difficult time separating religion from politics. Islam isn't just a religion, its a political ideology for many of them. If the palestinians were mostly christian, this situation wouldn't be going on right now. The whole problem is the fact that they are muslim.

An application from iLife '11 has already been released. It's called iTunes 10. It's not 64-bit.

    What?

iTunes have never been a part of the iLife suite and it have absolutely nothing to do with iLife except for media browser type of deals.

And I don't think Apple is the type of company to feel pressured by history, i.e. "we've been releasing a new product every year, so we HAVE to release a new product every year." More like John Carmack, "It'll be ready when it's ready," because people will still buy Apple and not enough would defect to hurt Apple's bottom line.

Doesn't that pretty much describe iterative and incremental product development, and isn't that Apple? :D

If a component (hardware or software) isn't ready in time, drop it for the next version...........

Interesting app. Unfortunately the place where my phone drops the most also has a funky gps issue. My iPhone usually says I'm located anywhere from 10 to 20 miles away (and yes, it has the pin point orb thing and not the you're in this general area circle). So I can report the problem but AT&T will get some random spot in the city and not the actual position.

    Hey NAG,

I just fired it up to report an issue and you can move the map around and center the RED X exactly where you are located. I got mine set my actual street address. If you put it in the general area of where you live and then zoom in on the map, you can position it to a much great degree of accuracy.

It's actually quite useful, so here's hoping the get the rest of the nation blanketed with 3G like verizon. I don't care if it's the fastest, I just don't want EDGE or ROAMING :)

    bloodbone:

how does BB handle upgrades if you're eligible? Do we just pay the upgrade cost?

how much does the BB plan cost?

Aphex3D above me is correct. You pay the same prices as you would in an ATT store. We have a proprietary application that ties in with all major cellphone providers in the US and were're able to reference your account, apply upgrades, activate new lines, terminate lines, etc.

They will check your upgrade status, and if you qualify for either a regular upgrade, or the early iPhone upgrade then you will only pay 199 or 299 for the 16GB and 32GB respectively.

Also as a side note, if you've got an iPhone 3GS that you purchased from BestBuy I would suggest immediately brining it up to the store and get a trade-in credit via our trade-in program. https://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/

I just checked the trade-in program and you get a 269.00 gift card for a 16GB 3GS (pretty nice if you only paid 199 for it) and you get a 311.00 dollar gift card for a 32GB 3GS. I would urge anyone thinking about the trade-in to do it ASAP because the prices are going down every day. I traded in my 32GB 3GS in last week before the keynote and I got about 330.00 for it on a gift card.

Ninja Edit: I just realized by BBY Plan you were probably reffering to the warranty. I'm not 100% sure because I've got an employee discount applied to mine. I think without a discount it is about 14 dollars a month. You have the option to pay the entire lump sum for the warranty at the time of purchase. Trust me, don't do this. If your phone needs to get exchanged they will sometimes have you purchase a new warranty on a new phone. This isn't a big deal if you're paying monthly, but if you already pre-paid for a years worth you get a pro-rated refund for the duration left on the warranty; the pro-rated refund is normally off by a few months, so if the plan is 14 dollars per month you're losing about 42 dollars.

Update: Yesterday everything worked with my DVD drive - today everything is the same as before! It won't play some of my DVDs - how strange is that? It seems that the reset made the DVD drive accept DVDs again, but only for a limited time :-(
Does anybody else in this forum have the same problem? Is there any soft fix, or does my MBP have to get ripped apart and receive new parts?
