This list (http://www.egghelp.org/shellhtml/12345-a-012-123.htm) provides info on how long each provider has been around. Hopefully that will help weed out the less desirable "flash in the pan" companies.
Thanks, Darth! Very useful information :)

I'll take one for free.
They're even uglier in person. I can't justify spending 39 bucks for the cheapest styles. Apple must think that a majority of their buyers are teenage girls or something. God awful colors.

Continuation of discussion from my thread:
I figure if we are going to keep talking about yours we might as well do it in your thread.
I think this is the best creative one, well other than mudbugs's spam one, but it doesn't count.
I still find mine sexier though

I would have bought this for $475....
Shame, I would have preferred to sell to a MR person :(
Also a shame that this is the 1 time I get a legit 0 feedback bidder.

vacuum cleaner with brush head. They keys do come off, but I would not recommend it unless you are risky. I can do it with ease and do it often, but there is a softer plastic scissor mechanism that is underneath the key and can break if pulled improperly.

I would be waiting early in line if I knew the white iphones would be available. I stood in line for the 3G and they sold out about 5 people in front of me. I got there about 6:00am. I'm not sure how the 3Gs launch went.

Check out their album Costello Music if you can get hold of it where you are. It is rather good.

I would suggest to start out with maybe an SX guitar and a cheap practice amp, that way if you want to stick with it, you can upgrade the amp and have a guitar that is better than most of the low end offerings of the big name companies, and if you decide it's not for you than you don't have that much invested in it. Picking up an instrument is so much fun though...I started on an acoustic about 8 years ago, then started playing bass in bands for about 5 years on an off and even now a lot of my time is spent on something music related. Good luck!

Can an Irishman join in the Canadian music lovefest?
I'll throw Ohbijou, Great Lake Swimmers and the Weakerthans into the mix.
Nice. I forgot about those...... also Wintersleep, Cuff The Duke, and Sunset Rubdown.
And, um... Barenaked Ladies.
Well, if you're going to throw kids music into the mix, then don't forget Sharon, Lois, and Bram.

Answer to original question: I don't know what possesses people to use WMV3 (which is actually Windows Media 9 video) in AVI files, but you're currently out of luck. WindowsMediaPlayer on the mac knows how to play WMV3, but it can't read AVI containers, so it's useless, and I know of no way to build the video and audio streams from an AVI file into an ASF file, at least on a Mac.
There are also no open source players that can decode WMV3, although a couple days ago the first foundations for doing just that were laid in the ffmpeg project, so eventually there will be options.
Like bankshot implied, that's an embarassingly ignorant comment, being that although AVI probalby isn't as good of a container format as MOV (less features), they're identical in that they both allow a huge range of video and audio formats, which is your complaint.
If you'd like me to demonstrate by making a MOV with a codec you can't play, it'll take me about a minute and a half.
The only difference is that most people who make MOV files stick to standard QuickTime codecs, whereas AVI, being much more popular for home-ripped files on the internet (where people seem to have an inexplicable urge to use bizzare codecs when there are far better and more popular alternatives available), has a huge range of oddball stuff people decide to use with them. You could easily do the same with QuickTime if you felt like it, though, and I'll bet if it was more popular people would.
I had no idea that non-QuickTime stuff was allowed in a MOV file. That seems like not such a smart idea to me - it'll just confuse people that download it, expecting that it will play in QuickTime Player, when it doesn't.

For the record this is what I use for critiquing artwork...
For feedback I generally use Logopond (www.logopond.com) for concepts, generally if you post artwork you will get feedback.
Clientwise I've gotten most of my clients onto redmark (http://redmark.com/), it's useful for committee based design... Also you can take personalities out of engineering the meetings and you can use it to pick up clients. Whatever forums you use it is hard to find targeted feedbacks.
While ideas generation Smashing Magazine (http://www.smashingmagazine.com/) and Abduzeebo (http://abduzeedo.com/) are good starting points
@Thanks Chester hope to see you round on other threads.

Exactly! I'm hoping that a CRT HDTV will help mask the problems. But I think for obvious MPEG artifacts it's Sky HD who takes the biscuit.
Some of the best looking Blu-rays use MPEG2. it's not really about the codec as much as the masters.

Wish I was cool and could claim to have seen it before everyone, 'cause everyone knows seeing it first makes it funnier.

Same issue here...
2011 MBP. DP2 ran fine. The first DP2 Update did also work w/o a flaw. Just applying the last update destroyed and the Book freezes during the boot process as stated above.
Gonna reinstall DP2...
Really kind of lame this issue... but hell...it's a Dev Preview... things like that can happen...

hi i need some advice.
i currently own a powermac with these specs:
dp 2.5ghz
160 HDD
4.5g RAM
6800ultra 256mbs
dvd burner 8x
TIGER...etc.
now i do a lot of video editing and animation. should i sell now, and get the dual dual cores when they come out. hoping they arrive within the next couple weeks?
at the moment im using my pc for a project so it won't hurt too much to not have a mac. However, would the cost of getting a new dual dual core(cross fingers), and specing it nicely, be worth it all the trouble? Or is there really no point in upgrading, becuase the dp 2.5 will still hold up?
if the new powermacs include ddr2, is that compatible with current ddr found in the powermacs? could i sell my current machine with 1.5g and keep the 3g for the new machine?
well any advice would be awesome.
thanks

Hmm.. Is the Quadrofx4500 a noisy card? What is the most powerful, worthwhile card to get if I want to get rid of the 7800 GT?
The Quadro is the best card available for the Dual Core/Quad G5s. I had one with mine. Quiet, fast 512 vram. Or you could mess around with your 7800, but I could not even work with that card and sold the whole machine. I've owned like five Quads.
Also i think you asked about the bluetooth board and airport on your machine
Like the internal wires to your air deflector connection, Apple figured out to make the bluetooth/airport wires internal on the last revision of the G5s, your machine. Reception is very good. I might be able to still get a bluetooth board for it if you need one.
