After months of speculation, smoke screens, mixed signals, and multiple conversations about the meaning of his text message or Facebook status, Ray Drew has FINALLY let the whole world in on the joke and, fortunately for Georgia fans, they get to have the last laugh.
Amidst a huge crowd of fans, followers, and officials from the teams that made his final five, Drew chose the Georgia Bulldogs—much to the delight of the hometown fans—adding himself to a 2011 class that is shaping up to be one of Richt's best ever.
Drew is the top rated weakside defensive end—second in the state—and the ninth best player in the country, according to Rivals.
Drew is 6'5", 243 pounds, but he's still got room to grow, and there is little doubt that Georgia will look to add a bit more size to his already impressive frame.
He should slot right into an outside linebacker spot in Todd Grantham's 3-4, cushioning the loss of Justin Houston to the NFL and giving the defensive line a big-time playmaker off the edge again.
All Georgia needs to do now is hold out for, JUCO prospect, John Jenkins. Jenkins would play the most important position in the 3-4, the nose, and would definitely make life easier for players like Ray Drew and Cornelius Washington next season.
Drew said he's known for a few weeks that he was going to commit to Georgia.
In all, it's just another great day to be a Georgia Bulldog, eh?
