Natalie Portman has been earning rave reviews for her lead performance in Darren Aronofsky's acclaimed psychological thriller Black Swan, which opens here in the UK this coming Friday. The film revolves around a ballet production of Swan Lake and centres on dancer Nina (Portman), who is the perfect match for the White Swan, although ballet director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) feels she lacks the passion to portray the Black Swan, preferring newcomer Lily (Mila Kunis) instead. Nina soon finds herself competing with Lily for Leroy's attention and must embrace her dark side in order to win the role, but at what cost?After first discussing the project with Aronofsky back in 2000, Portman spent several months training for the role and her devotion was rewarded with the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama this past weekend, while she has also received a BAFTA nomination today and must surely be favourite to take home the Best Actress Oscar at the Academy Awards next month.
