Video: Ryan Gosling on Blue Valentine

Blue ValentineGoing head-to-head with a big budget, heavily promoted blockbuster is probably not the best release strategy for a low-budget indie flick, but that's exactly the case this weekend at the UK box office as romantic drama Blue Valentine opens alongside Michel Gondy's big-screen adaptation of The Green Hornet. However, while the Seth Rogen action comedy will be the likely victor in terms of cold hard cash, indie darlings Ryan Gosling (Lars and the Real Girl) and Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) could have the last laugh as they compete for Best Actor and Actress at the Golden Globes this coming Sunday.

The second feature from American filmmaker Derek Cianfrance (and produced 12 years after his well-received debut Brother Tied), Blue Valentine depicts the evolution of a married couple's relationship, shifting back and forth to explore various stages from their courtship to break-up. The film caused quite a stir over the Atlantic when the MPAA delivered an NC-17 rating back in October due to its sexual content, although the decision was overturned to an R on appeal (while BBFC have granted it a 15 certificate for its UK release). Anyway, over to Ryan Gosling as he discusses the film...

Blue Valentine was released today in UK cinemas.
